About us

Who are we?
We are a small group of LGBTQ+ people. Some of us rent. Some of us own a flat. Some of us have been homeless because of who we are and some had a supportive family, and want others to as well. Some of us joined the project because we have been fearful to come out to our neighbours. Some of us joined because we didn’t feel at home in our neighbourhood. Some of us felt they wanted to live with people who knew them, who understood them, who they didn’t have to explain themselves to. Some of us are based in London, some in Scotland, some in South Africa.

What connects us is the feeling that something isn’t quite right about the housing that is currently on offer. That the homes we live in weren’t made for us, weren’t designed by us and weren’t the place we wanted to call home.

Why are we here?
Systemic inequality exists – that is an indisputable face. For decades, LGBTQ+ people fought for the right to live in any home. For years, you could be refused a mortgage because you were gay, or because you had HIV. Same sex couples were denied tenancy agreements and young people were (and sadly still are) thrown our by their families simply for being who they are.

The result of years of discrimination has led to where we are today. An LGBTQ+ community bound together by history, but never by where they live. There are some examples of our community coming together to live together: the queer co-op on Railton Road in Brixton, the squats of Seven Sisters, the little pockets of gay and lesbian houseshares peppered around London. For decades we have used our community power to find little microcosms of community, but until now, there are very few organisations working to provide housing for our community.

That’s where we step in.
